Volunteer With Us

We are so grateful for the difference our volunteers make and we simply cannot survive without their contribution.

Our volunteers are of all ages and backgrounds and we are thrilled when they say how they enjoy giving back, that volunteering gives them purpose and they love meeting new people and making firm friends.

Whether it is offering professional experience or gaining new skills on the job, our volunteers are always willing to help.

We have many opportunities available and welcome new additions to our family

Why volunteer?

  • Individual volunteers must be able to work independently. If you require a support worker or need guidance when completing tasks, please contact Michelle to discuss any issues. 
  • Businesses. We welcome staff groups of up to 20 people to join our team for a day of volunteering. (This can also be a great team building exercise!). Group sessions are normally offered at our events or a Busy Bee supporting our members.  Please contact Michelle for further information.
  • Professionals or corporations with specialised skills. Invisible Illnesses Inc welcomes volunteers with specific skill sets. For example; qualified people – hairdresser, nail technician, Reiki Therapist, podiatrist, dietician or, business professionals who might assist in areas of finance, human resources, training, safety, or marketing.

What’s involved?

There is always lots to do at Invisible Illnesses Inc, from sorting and processing goods in our opshop to volunteering in our offices or supporting our members with cleaning or gardening which is why we value the specialised skills, energy, and enthusiasm of our volunteers. 

 

 

We are Centrelink Approved

Some Centrelink clients may be eligible to elect to volunteer with us to meet their Mutual Obligation Requirements. An individual’s eligibility to volunteer as part of their activity requirements will depend on that particular individual’s Mutual Obligation Requirements. We are a Centrelink approved organisation.If you would like to volunteer to meet your Mutual Obligation Requirements please speak to your Job Service Provider.

Work and Development Permit Scheme

A Work and Development Permit (WDP) allows eligible clients to reduce or even clear their outstanding court fine(s) by completing approved activities in place of paying. A WDP may be issued by the Fines Enforcement Registry (FER) once a Notice of Intention to Enforce (Court Fine) has been issued.  You can work off your fines volunteering with us.

I’m Still Learning Program Manager

Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world. Our “I’m Still Learning” program is aimed towards kids who struggle at school and need that little bit of extra help, but whose parents are unable to afford a tutor.

This is a new program for 2022. You will be part of creating and implementing this program.

This position will play a pivotal role in the growth of the Invisible Illnesses Inc education program.

Would be an ideal position for a retired teacher, teacher or someone who is studying to become a teacher. Responsibilities
• creating mentoring programs
• being part of the execution
• liaising with Project Managers
• Recruiting mentoring volunteers.

Our services will be designed to improve students’ literacy, life skills, self-esteem and self-confidence which contribute to improving learning outcomes and improved student achievements.

Without support many students can become disengaged from school, usually resulting from behavioural and social skills problems or barriers they have developed towards learning.

Invisible Illnesses Inc trains and supports volunteers throughout their journey to ensure vulnerable students are taken care of.
– Minimum commitment of 10 hours per week for at least 6 months
– Patience to listen to young students read and students across all levels who have difficulties at school

Shop 4 A Cause Retail Assistant

We are seeking friendly, helpful new team members who would like to give back to their community by helping us sell clothing and bric-a-brac, sorting donations, greeting and serving customers.

This role is essential for the ongoing success of Invisible Illnesses Inc.

Invisible Illnesses offers opportunities for members of the community to give their time, talents and other skills to assist the less fortunate members of our community by volunteering to work in our Shop 4 A Cause stores. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and interact with others, to meet Centrelink requirements by volunteering, gain additional work experience in retail, or share your skills with others. 

As a Retail Volunteer, you will play a central role in the operations of the store, making a significant and valuable contribution to Invisible Illnesses Inc’s members. Each team is very friendly and welcoming, so if you’re looking for some community involvement, some new friends, or an excuse to get out of the house – this role is perfect for you!

The Retail Volunteer will perform a variety of tasks including:

  • Providing customers with an excellent shopping experience;
    • Sorting and pricing donations
    • Assisting with product display;
    • Processing sales through the POS (point of sale) cash register;
    • Keeping the store and sorting area tidy, whilst maintaining safe work practices.

As we operate 7 days a week, you may need to be available for weekend work

We welcome those with previous retail or hospitality backgrounds to share their experience with their fellow volunteers in the shop.

Loyalty Program Manager
This role would suit a highly organised individual with the ability to manage a database, with passion and drive to succeed. Loyalty programs improve customer retention and provide incentives for customers to buy. Loyalty programs can help do this by increasing the number of repeat customers and also increasing the number of repeat purchases The successful candidate will be a hands-on individual with the ability to work autonomously. This role will suit a self-motivated candidate who can follow up on issues and has excellent oral and written communication skills. You will be responsible for the management and development of the program.

Grants & Sponsorship Coordinator
How would you like to work alongside the leadership team of a progressive impactful charity organisation? Ready to make a difference in our community? Your sole role would be to seek out and apply for government, community and philanthropic grants on our behalf, working in conjunction with the executive leadership team. You would assist in project development and be responsible for the writing and submission of grant applications to the relevant agencies.

The person responsible for this role would preferably need a strong knowledge of government and not for profit legislation and grant writing. This is one of the most important and rewarding roles within our organisation. Without grant funding, a not for profit charity organisation cannot grow and reach its full potential.

You will be responsible for sourcing sponsors in exchange for advertising opportunities. 

In this role, the duties include putting together a list of potential sponsors for an event or project, contacting them to solicit their participation, and coordinating their promotion in the event. Their participation is sometimes as small as a banner but sponsors often like to get more involved in the event.

You would be required to attract and retaining sponsors, developing sponsorship proposals, managing all partnerships 

Home Helpers
Invisible Illnesses offers the opportunity to use your skills and expertise to make a real difference in the lives of people who need help most.

This volunteer role would be an excellent opportunity for a student currently studying Social Services or Aged Care to gain experience and build upon their studies

Gardening
Do you consider yourself a bit of an expert with all things to do with gardening?  If you would like to use your expertise, skills and extra time volunteering with Invisible Illnesses Inc, this might just be the role you’ve been looking for!

Tasks include weeding, mowing lawns, pruning, general tidying, keeping the garden and other outdoor areas free of weeds and sweeping concreted areas.

This role provides support to ensure the property is safe and enjoyable for our member and their family and friends. 

Cleaning
If you love making people happy by making things SPARKLE and SHINE this volunteer role is for you

This position provides support through maintaining the members home to a standard which will provide a positive, safe, tidy and aesthetically pleasing environment.

Role Tasks May Include

  • Floor cleaning; vacuum carpeted areas, mop other areas
  • Dusting;
  • Bathroom duties; clean bathroom basins, showers and toilets
  • Kitchen duties; wash and dry dishes, wipe down benches, fridge, ovens and other equipment as required.
  • Rubbish removal; empty bins, both garbage and recycling.

Other duties may include helping change bedding, folding or washing.
The role can be quite varied.

Current Police Clearance and Working with Children Check is essential for this role.

Social Media & Marketing Manager
We always love help from anyone who has a passion for online systems and is tech-savvy. This role helps run our online store, and can assist in taking photos, posting items for sale, and designing social media posts. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to offer their creative skills or gain experience in marketing and photography. This role is office based and works with a very small team to achieve big outcomes.

Assist with the delivery of media strategies, keep social media and the web activities current and communicate with the Community, Participants and Stakeholders through our social media channels.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and driving a social media strategy to grow Invisible Illnesses Inc on-line presence.
  • Develop social media activities / posts through Linked In, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube etc – we expect several posts per week across our current channels and creating content on new channels
  • Manage content creation from other creators (such as other volunteers, the Board, sponsors etc)
  • Respond to enquiries that come through social media channels
  • Liaise and communicate with Stakeholders Project Manager, Local Government, Community Organisations, and the broader Community – in the production of social media content
  • You would be working closely with our President,  Events Manager, Loyalty Program Manager, Men’s Group Facilitator, Fundraising Manager and Area Leaders
  • We require you to work 10- 15 hours/week in our Rockingham office

  • We anticipate that your responsibilities would include
  • • Responsible for the organic content strategy and daily social media content across the platforms we currently use
  • • To create and manage a YouTube channel & Podcasts
  • • Responding to all social comments and direct messages.
  • • Coordinating competitions advertised through social media.
  • • Reporting on the effectiveness of campaigns, ads, and posts and adjusting the strategy accordingly.

Letterbox/Poster Distributors
Drive, ride or walk around different areas to help distribute our leaflets to letterboxes and place our event posters in different shopping centres etc

Casual Cuppa Host
Do you like coffee? Do you like to chat? Even better if you like to do the both at the same time because we need you! You will also have the opportunity to make new friends.
The Casual Cuppa program has the purpose of reducing the premature decline in individual wellbeing and incapacity caused by social isolation and loneliness.

Events Coordinator – Mandurah

The Events Coordinator supports the development of the event entertainment program and leading coordination of entertainment on the event day.

Key responsibilities
• Coordinate the development and program of the event
. Approach local business for support and donations of prizes
Search and apply for grants to help pay for the event
• Manage the set up and pull down of the event on the day

You will be supported and guided by the committee who will provide assistance in the lead up to the event.

Administrative Secretary – Mandurah

We are seeking an energetic and capable Administrative Secretary to assist us with office administration. In this role, you will be responsible for processing documents, maintaining databases, and liaising with the public. You may also be required to manage office supplies.

To ensure success as an Administrative Secretary, you should possess excellent communication skills and demonstrable experience in a secretarial role. You must be able to multitask

Mandurah Area Leader

The Mandurah Group will be well supported by Head Office, located in Rockingham, who are themselves volunteers and your contribution will make the world of difference not only to sufferers, but the people who support them.

Provides direct leadership to the multiple district in their constitutional area
 Develops area specific programs/strategies to address needs or opportunities
 Works directly with Head Office in the coordination of membership and new club efforts within his/her area
 Works closely with their team to achieve the membership goals set by the districts, reviews reports on progress and takes appropriate action steps.
Must be able to get to Rockingham for training & monthly meetings
 Reports to the executive level
